Harvard, a leading player in the LED and wireless street lighting industries, has recently appointed a new business development manager to its growing sales team, John Charles.

John has over 27 years experience working on local authority lighting and communications systems. He has also been responsible for implementing a number of international lighting design projects in the US, South Africa and Australia, as well as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and Terminal 5 in the UK.

John has gained a thorough understanding of a wide range of lighting applications, including tunnels and high mast installations, and has worked as joint venture manufacturer project manager with Network Rail, BAA and the Highways Agency on several projects, using innovating lighting techniques including Optical Fibre, LED and HID augmented with dimming and control systems.

Working as a senior member of the external sales team John’s role will involve identifying and developing new business opportunities, and securing new contracts for Harvard’s innovative LeafNut street lighting solution from both local authorities and commercial users.

John Charles commented,

“I am thrilled to be joining Harvard at such an exciting time. The opening of the new premises, which strengthens our extensive UK based research, development and manufacturing facilities, will allow us to proactively develop solutions for UK and global customers.”

John’s appointment reflects Harvard’s significant growth over the past two years, increasing employee numbers from 130 to 210. Due to the expanding LED market, Harvard’s LED driver solutions are in great demand. The company’s revolutionary wireless remote street lighting solution, LeafNut, is also very much sought-after with local authorities across the world deploying the system.

Currently more than 40 local authorities worldwide have implemented the system, which allows authorities to not only save carbon emissions – assisting them to meet Carbon Reduction Commitment targets but make energy saving as well.

Michael McDonnell, sales and marketing director at Harvard, commented,

“We are all extremely pleased to welcome John to the team and we are already seeing the value he will bring to the company. We have had a strong couple of years and John’s appointment will provide us with opportunity for further growth.”

Harvard supplies some of the most innovative and efficient products for commercial, retail, emergency and street lighting applications, including HID Indoor and Outdoor ballasts, CoolLED drivers, including its DALI dimmable driver, and a controllable street lighting solution called LeafNut.
