Clugston Construction one of the North’s leading privately owned building and civil engineering contractors – with offices in Leeds, Scunthorpe and Hebburn Tyne & Wear – is celebrating winning a prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) President’s Award, for receiving 14 consecutive Gold Awards.

Dating back to 1956, the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards scheme is the largest and longest-running programme of its kind in the UK. It recognises commitment to accident and ill health prevention and is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas. The scheme does not just look at accident records, but also entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including important practices such as strong leadership and workforce involvement.

David Rawlins, awards manager at RoSPA, said:

“The RoSPA Awards programme provides well-deserved recognition for the winners and spurs on other organisations to raise their standards of accident and ill health prevention. We congratulate Clugston Construction on its success and encourage it, and all our other winners, to remain committed to safety and health, an approach that is well recognised to be good for workers and the bottom line.”

Steve Radcliffe, Clugston Construction’s managing director commented:

“We are proud to be honoured with the prestigious RoSPA President’s award in recognition of the continued importance we place on Health & Safety. Our employees are our most valuable asset and we do our utmost to ensure their safety at all times, on all our construction sites.”

The company which, as part of the Clugston Group of companies is also celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2012 by raising £75,000 for a number of charities, has also been shortlisted in this year’s Annual Construction News Awards, in the Health & Safety category.

Clugston Construction is a privately owned building and civil engineering contractor and a member of the Clugston Group which was established 75 years ago by the current chairman’s father. Operating from three regional offices across Northern and Eastern England, the company has built a reputation for safely delivering a wide variety of services and projects.
