Clugston jump in at the deep end

The Clugston Group, the privately owned company with interests in construction, logistics, property development and facilities management, has organised a special charity 10km swim at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield on Friday 24th August in order to raise money for the Weston Park Cancer Support and Information Centre.

The event is part of a series of challenges the Clugston Group are undertaking as part of its 75th Anniversary aim to raise £75,000 for 10 charities in 2012.  All the charities have been nominated by the company’s employees.

The Weston Cancer Support centre, based adjacent to Weston Park Hospital on Northumberland Road, was chosen as one of the beneficiaries by Clugston Construction staff members who have been involved in the construction of the centre itself and other projects for Weston Park Hospital and have seen the fantastic work being undertaken there.

“To continue the ethos of staying in touch with the Clugston Group’s past we hit upon the idea of the swim taking place at Ponds Forge, not only as it is the most prestigious swimming venue in the region but also its special association with Clugston as we were involved in its construction 22 years ago, delivering all the concrete structures for the iconic diving boards, pool and spectator seating,” Paul Gouland, marketing director at Clugston Construction, said.

“In addition, a further link is the heating system at Ponds Forge is powered from the Veolia Waste to Energy (WtE) facility at Bernard Road which was also constructed by Clugston. We are immensely grateful to the staff at Ponds Forge for their brilliant assistance in organising what we hope will be a memorable and successful event.”

Richard Apps, general manager at the Sheffield International Venues (SIV) managed Ponds Forge, also commented, “We are delighted to be playing host to this event, which is raising a huge amount of money for an incredibly worthwhile cause. It will be great to see the company involved in the building of Ponds Forge back at the venue to swim in the famous pool that they helped to create. We wish all the participants the best of luck.”
