Clugston Distribution, the logistics arm of the Clugston Group of Companies, recently announced the winners of a design competition, which was launched last year to mark the company’s investment in greener technology and to celebrate the Clugston Group’s 75th anniversary.
Artwork by Abbie Coupland (11) from Barton St Peters C of E Primary School and Luke Stonehewer (10) from Messingham Primary School, both in North Lincolnshire, were chosen from among 130 entries in the competition, which asked 7-11 year olds to create an image to reflect the theme of making Lincolnshire a “greener place to live”.
The winning designs have been applied to a newly acquired state-of-the-art Lawrence David curtain sided trailer named ‘Cluggy’ – part of an ambitious £1.5million capital expansion of Clugston Distribution’s fleet during 2013 – which is created to deliver a 5.9% fuel saving and reduce carbon emissions by 3000kg a year.
Commenting on the competition Clugston Distribution General Manager, David Heath said: “The competition was run as part of our aim to become a more sustainable company, and to involve the local community in what we do. The idea to get primary school children to create a design for our new 45 foot trailer, which itself is extremely carbon efficient, was aimed at raising awareness of the global carbon challenge and directly engaging with the area’s youth. We are delighted to have this opportunity to showcase the winners’ creative talents.”
Abbie and Luke, along with four guests each, were invited to view the newly liveried trailer at the Scunthorpe vs. Hartlepool match at Glanford Park – Scunthorpe United’s stadium – on Saturday, 23 February, where they enjoyed the match and a meal as guests of Clugston Distribution.
From March, ‘Cluggy’ will be carrying timber products from Lincolnshire whilst brightening up the roads with its distinctive new livery, which will be used for at least five years.
