Do you want to be able to select components directly from machines in the event of faults or for maintenance requirements? Then look no further as this works with the new EPLAN Data Portal app which is now available in two languages from the iTunes Store. It allows users to access over 340,000 components in the portal to search and select mobile devices and components. The intelligent basket then transfers the data collected into the original EPLAN project.
Mobile applications for iPads and smartphones are in fashion – after all, production is getting more flexible all the time. Solution provider EPLAN has now developed a free data portal app for iPhone and iPad which is now available
online. It will allows EPLAN users to select components on their mobile device – i.e. directly from the machine or plant. Extensive filter options make finding the right component for service or maintenance quicker and easier. If components need to be replaced, they can be selected directly in the app whilst ‘on site’. If a manufacturer has removed the item from the range, a successor item can be found in almost an instant. Once in the basket, the part is ready and can be transferred directly to the project at the office. This ensures that the documentation reflects the machine’s ‘as-built’ status and that everything fits together logically – guaranteeing that all plant and project documentation is consistent and seamless.
Configuration with extra convenience
Benefits for manufacturers
This new application also offers a great new potential for component manufacturers. Sales employees can directly access the component data saved on the portal and highlight the potential in integrated engineering for their customers. Providing integrated project data such as order information, graphical representation and detailed component information in the conventional EPLAN format, gives a real added value for all involved. It is an unbeatable sales tool as manufacturers and users benefit from high quality engineering data.
EPLAN & Apps – the story continues
EPLAN presented its first mobile applications two years ago. This includes an info app and the eplanet app for its in-house customer magazine which are available in two languages for Apple and Android. These applications are free for anyone to download, regardless of if you are an EPLAN customer or not. They provide up-to-date information on upcoming EPLAN events, product news and customer case stories. Moreover, users can look forward to innovative upcoming technical developments in the mobile applications sector. New manufacturers added to EPLAN Data Portal There have been extensive changes to the EPLAN Data Portal. In addition to revised and updated data from Rockwell, Festo, Unex, SICK, LAPP, ABB, Saia-Burgess, Rittal, and Siemens, we are very pleased to announce three new partners: Murrelektronik is now represented with over 150 records including images and macros corresponding to field distributors, cables, protection devices, power sources and PLCs. Even GE – General Electric has joined the Data Portal phenomenon. They have added almost 700 records including 54 macros to power-switching devices that can easily be downloaded. The third addition is Numatics, a leading North American manufacturer of pneumatics and motion control products. They have added 100,000 records in fluid technology (valves), 34 PLC records and 140 macros, in order to expand their range of records in the portal. Currently there are now 51 manufacturers with nearly 340,000 items available at the EPLAN Data Portal – and rising.
